In keeping with VIU Library’s commitment to student success, and our pledge to our user communities, the expanded Learning Commons, including Madrona Room and the Family Space, is the culmination of strategic, coordinated efforts to steward library services, including technologies, spaces and collections, that enhance learning and well-being.
VIU Library’s Madrona Room (room 332) is located on the Nanaimo campus in building 305 on the 3rd floor, north west corner. It is 813 square feet in size and can accommodate up to 43 people. This space is primarily intended for study; however, it is designed to be flexible and can accommodate other uses, including programs like Language in the Library and other events with an educational focus.
Open 24/7 365 days a year. The room may be unavailable from time to time due to special events and programming. However, because of the significant demand for study space at the end of the fall and spring semesters, the room is prioritized for that purpose during these times.
The room has 9 tables and 24 chairs.
Food and drink are permitted.
The space can be booked for university events and programs with an educational focus. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with details about your event to submit your request.
The space features a 70” monitor and a soundbar. It is the responsibility of event organizers to ensure that copyright considerations have been taken into account when playing music or showing films. Licensing fees may be required.
Power and wifi is available. The Madrona room presentation kit includes 2 HDMI cables and a remote for the TV. This kit, and various other equipment, is available for VIU students and employees to loan through the Library's equipment booking tool.
