There is no charge for your first student ID card. The card is funded through your student service fees. If your student card expires, you are entitled to another student ID card at no charge.
Student cards expire every two years. If your card is set to expire, please wait until it is less than a month before it's expiry date to upload a new photo and request a new card. If a photo is uploaded more than a month before your card expires, it will be rejected.
Building and account access is connected to your status as a student at VIU, and not your student card. Access privileges automatically expire 6 months after the completion of your last enrolled course.
If your card is lost or stolen please report it immediately to the Library Service Desk. There is a fee of $10 for replacement cards. Payment can be made by debit or credit card.
Please upload your file as a jpeg. The photo can be up to 2MB in size.
If your photo does not meet the requirements specified, you will receive an email letting you know the reason it was rejected and that you will need to upload a new photo so that your card can be processed.
Group appointments are not available. Students can upload their photo through the Student Record System to get their student ID card.
Student ID cards are non-transferable. Do not share your card or its information. The person whose name appears on the ID card is responsible for use of the card, including library items borrowed and any charges incurred.
Contact us by email at library@viu.ca and we can investigate the issue.
VIU cards are issued to employees and students only. If you need to access printing and photocopying on campus, please email Managed Print for assistance.
