Book Displays

Virtual displays in connection with the various in-person book displays for assorted themes, weeks, and events.

About the Display

Open education week, held every March, is a global call to make learning more accessible, inclusive, and affordable. One key way to do this is through Open Educational Resources (OERs), freely available teaching and learning materials that can be used, adapted or shared at no cost.

For faculty and instructors: Explore our Open Educational Resources guide to learn how you can incorporate or build on OERs in your courses.

For students: You can save hundred of dollars every year by using OERs instead of expensive textbooks. Ask your professors if they'e considering OERs for your courses. VIU Student Union has more information on how you can support Open Textbook initiatives.

The featured books in this display showcase just a few of the incredible OERs that are already available out there!

What are open educational resources? Textbooks, resources, and practices free of legal, financial, and technical barriers. Poster describing the 5 Rs of openness. Redistribute: share content to continue to the cycle. Remix: combine content from multiple sources. Revise: adjust, adapt, modify or alter content; reuse: use content for any purpose. Retain: Make, own, and control copies of the content.
