English as a Second Language (ESL) and International Students

This guide is for ESL and International students who would like to use library services and supports

At the VIU Library, we provide many helpful resources and services for ESL and international students. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Search for books and articles: you can use the library website to find books or articles for your assignments or for fun reading
  • Visit the Library anytime: you can go to the Nanaimo campus library with your valid VIU card. You can meet people, use computers, printers, photocopiers, and other tools you might need to get your assignments done.
  • Book study spaces: You can reserve study rooms, media rooms, accessibility stations (with text to speech software) for your group work or other projects.
  • Family room: We have a family space in the Nanaimo campus library where you can bring your young children or siblings to keep busy with our children's book collection and other sensory puzzles as you work.
  • Borrow equipment: You can borrow equipment like laptops, cameras, and microphones to help you with your work
  • Have fun: When you're not studying, you can have fun with friends and borrow board games, watch movies and other fun things from the library collection.
