Showing media at VIU

Are you planning a VIU event?

Educational exceptions in the Copyright Act allow public performances of sound recordings (music) and media (DVDs, streaming films) on campus for educational purposes.

Playing music and videos at non-educational university events (e.g., orientation, fundraisers, film festivals, club events) may be possible if the rights were purchased by VIU or negotiated for the specific use.

To arrange permissions for an event, or to find out if a particular musical work or feature film is covered by a license, contact the Copyright Office.

To learn more about appropriate uses of media (including movies and music), explore the Media page.
