The CFI works to increase the capability of Canada’s universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research organizations to carry out high quality research by investing in research infrastructure.

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) produces unique, persistent identifiers that researchers can use with multiple organizations to compile the outputs of their research activities. 

This is part of an overall effort to reduce the administrative burden for the research community in relation to data collection in all our processes. In addition, the integration of persistent unique identifiers such as ORCID is a facilitator in the ongoing transition towards open science.

In some communities, where national, disciplinary, or
proprietary researcher identifiers are well established and
widely used, ORCID is seen as an ‘extra’ identifier, whose
value is not always apparent. However, ORCID is most
powerful in combination with these other identifier types.

The Canadian Shared Print Network (North/Nord) is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural Researcher-in-Residence Program for the 2025/2026 cycle. This program offers a unique opportunity for researchers to engage with projects pertinent to shared print initiatives. Specifically, we are seeking proposals aligned with one of the following three research streams: Canadiana, Indigenous Works, and Government Information, as well as studies related to collection analysis and collective collecting. This position is not remunerated, as it is a voluntary Researcher-in-Residence role intended to support independent scholarship and collaboration.

Aid to Scholarly Journals grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight research program. The grants support Canadian scholarly research and dissemination by offering a contribution to enable journals to defray the costs associated with publishing open access scholarly articles and digital journal dissemination.

From the announcement: NSERC and SSHRC announce integration of Contributor ID (ORCID) with Convergence, 

the most modern granting system at NSERC and SSHRC... Using ORCID, applicants can easily pull their affiliation and education information into Convergence, reducing the time and administrative burden associated with research grant applications.

From the Call for Contributions: 

The 1st Canadian Conference on Open Science and Open Scholarship is a landmark national event dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open science practices across the country, making research more accessible, transparent, and collaborative. Hosted by Concordia University and partner institutions, the conference arrives at a pivotal moment, as Canada strengthens its commitment to open science through new mandates, platforms, and services. Taking place in Montreal on October 9-10, 2025, the event will convene 150–200 participants from government, academia, and research organizations. Together, they will develop practical guidelines and forge partnerships to transform the way research is conducted and shared nationwide. Participants will engage in hands-on work to map the current open-science landscape in Canada, and outline future directions. The program will include keynote and invited talks, panel discussions, working groups, and ample opportunities for networking and for participants to share their work. Join us as a speaker! We welcome submissions for posters, booths, and lightning talks that showcase your work in advancing open science.
