*use Workflows booking group DIGITSTIL

flash/memory card will automatically be booked as one of the "requirements".

card as they include the batteries needed to operate the camera.

Additional cards can be booked by adding to the
requirements at time of booking.

AA Battery Charging Procedure [Margo 2006]

In order to solve the problem of the digital still batteries losing their charge
we have devised the following change in the routine for charging and loan out:

  1. batteries will stay fully charged IN the chargers at all times
  2. the black pouches with memory cards in them will be empty of batteries
  3. When you get the camera bag and pouch from the shelf for a client, retrieve
4 batteries from one of the charger units and place them in the pouch.
  4. At the same time, take 4 more batteries from the box on the charging
shelving unit marked "TO CHARGE" and put them in the empty charger.

"CF card error" message on Digital Still Camera

You turn on the camera and set it to take a picture but get a “CF card error”
message at the top of the display screen. Do this:

  1. Press MENU button
  2. Use arrow key to scroll to FORMAT
  3. Press SET button
  4. Use arrow key to select OK
  5. Press SET button

The camera may turn itself off following the format. Turn it back on if you want
to begin shooting.

If the camera doesn’t turn itself off, press the MENU button to return to
shooting mode.

Can be done in the library at station with card reader. Can also be
downloaded to client's laptop or computer in which case they need to download
driver (see link below) then use camera to USB cable which comes with each
camera.

New from Jean Jan.5/06
Students and employees can download pictures from the Canon PowerShot
digital still cameras loaned at the Equipment Loans desk using the USB cable
that comes with the camera. In other words, they do not need to be on a
media station and using an SD memory card drive - they do not need to even
remove the card from the camera. Users can download their pictures on any
computer in the Library or Commons on which they can log on to their
Discovery/Capitan accounts. I've done up some instructions and Margo is
putting a printout with each of the cameras. The instructions are also on
the Library Services: Technology web site at
http://www.mala.ca/library/services/technology/guides/camera_usb.pdf.

People needing to return equipment are often in a flap needing to download
their pictures - and most of the time, they haven't booked time on a media
station. If you get these folks at the Reference or Service desks, please
alert them to these new instructions.

These instructions should work on other campus computers running Windows XP.
The same procedure may also work for other digital camera models.

Reformat Flashcard

It is good to reformat the card occasionally or especially if odd things start
to happen, such as being unable to download certain images (suggest every 1-2
months). Reformatting the card is a primary troubleshooting step. This is how to
do it:

  1. Connect Card Reader 147C to your computer via USB port (no need to shut down
    computer).
  2. Open MY COMPUTER and 147C will show four new drives: one for each of the
    flash card types it supports.
  3. Insert flash card to be reformatted (label facing your left); a green light
appears when it is properly inserted and being read.
  4. Find the drive containing the flash card by clicking on the drives; once
you've found it, right click and choose FORMAT.
  5. Choose QUICK FORMAT, then START and OK.
  6. You will be notified via dialogue box when formatting is complete. Click OK
    and exit.
