Searching Tips

Use LibrarySearch (above) to find information in lots of different formats: books, e-books, articles, videos, and more,  You can also find the LibrarySearch box on the VIU Library homepage.

Use quotation marks for phrases.  "Forest bathing" will get fewer results than forest bathing, but those results will be more useful. Phrase searching will improve your Google searches, too.

Limit your results.  On your results page, use filters on the left side of the screen (under the heading "REFINE YOUR SEARCH") to narrow results.  Refining to newspaper articles or magazine articles may be useful.

Follow the links to get your information.  For online articles and e-books, click on "Full Text Online" to access.  For books and videos, check availability of the item in the library.  You can request items that are on loan, or that are not available at other campus libraries.

Ask for help.  If you have problems locating information you need, please ask library staff to assist.  See the "Research Help" tab of this guide for ways to contact the library.
